This book had me roaring with laughter. I had to send a video of me reading my favorite parts to my sister so she could laugh. (She has given this auntie two babies so I figured she needed a laugh) Then my nephew K, apparently watched the video 20 times and laughed too. Suffice it to say, we all love this book.
Breanna starts out strong with, “Auntie says I’m the most perfect nephew to ever be born”. What Auntie has not said this to their nephew? I’ve said it to multiple nephews. Because they are all the most perfect. Breanna must be speaking from the same experience. My nephew K’s favorite line was, "Auntie says I’m her beautiful baby boy. I’m the brightest star in her favorite constellation.” I will be literally stealing this and using it on repeat. Breanna just gets it! So far, this review is just me praising Breanna and quoting my favorite parts. So, here’s a quick summary: The story follows a little boy whose Auntie brings a new baby into this loving family and his mixed feelings about it. I won’t spoil the ending, but do I even need to? When you have the perfect nephew there is always enough love.
P. S. This kid was so cute and so well loved and his Auntie was a goddess among us.
Bits and Pieces: The book didn’t say, but my guess is digital illustrations. I know I’ve reviewed Breanna’s books before and I try not to repeat authors or illustrators, but maybe Breanna is just that good?!
Not Sure: I’ve got no complaints.
Favorite Part: I liked that when it was time to give birth, the Auntie and the sister seemed to forget about the dad and go off to handle business together. An absolute hoot. Also, I liked that the Auntie was so self-satisfied. I don’t know how Savanna did it, but every scene with Auntie, you could just tell she was feeling herself. Aspirational!
