I am writing this absolutely on the fly and at breakneck speed because if you’ve seen THIS NEWS, you'll understand why I am extremely distracted and hyper and unable to be my best self. Please enjoy this unformatted book review.
Cat’s Christmas By Alison Murray
Cat doesn’t like Christmas. He doesn’t like the tree. He doesn’t like sticky foods. And he certainly does not like it when a dog visits and takes his favorite spot (his human’s lap). Cat loses his temper, and his human is not pleased (Cat throws the tree on the ground). Cat wanders out into the night, perches in a tree, and yowls. And howls. After watching a beautiful cosmic display, Cat decides maybe Christmas isn’t terrible, and wonder can be found even in the darkest moments. A rain shower also convinces him to go back home. His human is thrilled he’s returned, and he warms up on her lap and later, in a Christmas gift box.
Notes: I have had many cats. Cats who loved Christmas (Lewis and Clark) and a cat who did not enjoy Christmas (Moe). I don’t know that I have a preference. Lewis and Clark loved Christmas so much that they would often throw down the tree and vomit on the tree skirt after breaking priceless ornaments. All done at midnight. Moe believes the tree to be evil and won’t go near it. She monitors it from one of her five cat-approved heating pads scattered throughout the house for her comfort. Wait, I’ve decided. I do have a preference.
My point is, Cats and Christmas don’t really mix, but this particular feline reminds us that as long as you have a cat-sized box, you’ll be ok. The illustrations were created using mixed media mark-making and digital collage.
