"The Wildest Thing" By Emily Winfield Martin

Oooooo, not to get ahead of myself here, but I’m pretty sure I discovered a new classic. Picked this up on a whim and read it to one of my nephews, also on a whim, and we both were charmed because it's whimsical. I loved it because it was a beautiful story with gorgeous illustrations. He loved it because it is bunny-themed. It’s a joyful and soulful ode to unleashing the wildness within. You can easily see the influence of Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, a not-so-favorite of mine that I can still appreciate. But this is better (I SAID WHAT I SAID).

Meet Eleanor, a small girl who goes to sleep at night dreaming of wild things and wakes to find that in the night, the Wild came in. She unleashes her inner Wild and soars. Best line? “And when the sun came up, the wild had come in.” Delightful.

Bits and Pieces: The illustrations in this book were created using colored pencil, gouache, and acrylic on hot-press watercolor paper and wood panel.

Not Sure About: I cannot find a fault.

Favorite Part: When Eleanor takes her breakfast while sitting upon a large grizzly bear. Taking her bath with a swan. When she had a little snack. When she bloomed.
